Red Bag Solutions joins the National Rural Health Association Partnership Program after introducing two new models of the Steam Sterilization and Maceration (SSM) system for on-site processing of biohazardous waste in Rural Hospitals. The new SSM models were designed for rural hospitals and clinics typically paying higher prices for smaller volumes of biohazardous and infectious medical waste to a different vendor. Rural healthcare facilities have historically been underserved and overcharged for the disposal of biohazardous waste, and Red Bag Solutions’ new SSM models and waste management services has changed that.
The SSM-ST models (ST designates “Smaller Tank”) simultaneously sterilize and macerate biohazardous waste, including sharps waste, reducing its volume and weight while rendering it unrecognizable, HIPAA compliant and completely safe for repurposing or recycling. The new SSM models, with a 15-year life expectancy, have minimal space requirements, are easily installed and are easy to operate and maintain. The new ST models are significantly less expensive, allowing facilities that generate smaller volumes of biohazardous waste to reduce their disposal costs while improving environmental sustainability.
Red Bag Solutions’ patented SSM technology provides a cost effective and environmentally responsible method for healthcare facilities to process biohazardous waste. The SSM sterilizes waste using only superheated water and steam. The confetti-like end product is unrecognizable and HIPAA compliant, may be disposed of in the nearest landfill, recycled or used as fuel in waste-to-energy facilities. This reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions and eliminates the liabilities associated with transporting untreated medical waste through the community. Onsite processing also enhances a facility’s environmental sustainability initiatives by expanding recycling programs, enhancing waste-segregation and reducing the burden on landfills, thus enhancing the facility’s profile throughout the communities they serve.
Donald R. Millard, Red Bag Solutions’ CEO commented – “We have brought substantial value to rural hospitals and clinics, a segment of the U.S. Healthcare market where we understand from NRHA are facing increasing challenges and price pressures. We address a need to reduce costs, reduce risk of liability and improve environmental sustainability. Our solution is cost effective, safe, efficient and environmentally superior to other options being successfully implemented in many rural healthcare facilities today. We look forward to delivering value and cost savings to all of NRHA’s members in the years to come.”
